VOTE! It’s a member benefit (and responsibility)

Last year only 89 of the Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ (GAND) members (out of 1648) voted in the Board of Directors election. That means just 5% of members determined the leadership for the entire affiliate with 95% of GAND members opting out of this important member benefit. Consider these important facts:

February is Children’s Dental Health Month.  Many dietitians may not immediately think about the connection between dental health and nutrition, but the connection is a natural one.  According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, dental caries (cavities) is the number one chronic disease affecting young children today.1  Poor oral health has been linked to other chronic diseases including heart disease.

The Low Down on High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure, commonly known as hypertension, is having a systolic blood pressure (pressure when heart contracts) of ≥140 and a diastolic blood pressure (when heart relaxes) of ≥90. Having high blood pressure increases your risk for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Lifestyle modification plays an important role in blood pressure control.
