Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) provides a variety of high value membership benefits. These benefits together provide professional opportunities and resources to support career, professional, and leadership development.
For less than $0.65 per day (active membership), members of the Academy can take advantage of benefits and savings valued at more than $3000! Click here for full details.
Additionally, Academy members are not only food and nutrition experts, they are leaders in the field of dietetics. The Academy is the one group that is working to advance the profession, lobbying for legislation that supports the work and programs that are important to all dietitians, and supporting dietitians in professional development. Academy members have access to the following programs and services:
- eatright.org and eatrightPRO.org
- Evidence Analysis Library
- Public Policy Workshop
- Food & Nutrition Magazine®
- Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- Daily News E-blast
- Discounts on Products and Publications
- Medical Nutrition Therapy Resources
Member benefits are designed to advance members’ careers and enhance their networking opportunities. Membership in affiliates (including the Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) is included in membership in the Academy. One must just select to which affiliate they want to belong as part of your membership profile. Participation in the state affiliate offers local opportunities to network, experience leadership roles, among other benefits.
Our field – nutrition and dietetics – is incredibly diverse. Dietetics Practice Groups (DPGs) and Member Interest Groups (MIGs) allow members to tailor their membership experience even more. Choosing to join a DPG or MIG, for a small additional fee, helps members connect with others who share their passion for a specific area of practice. Many members find that DPG and MIG membership leads to opportunities to grow in a specific area and find mentors across the country (perhaps the world) who can serve as advisors and mentors within their area of specialty.
I joined the American Dietetic Association (now the Academy) in January 1997 when I started my dietetic internship. I became a member because I thought being a member was a requirement for becoming a registered dietitian. It never occurred to me that dietetic professionals, or any credentialed professional, would not be a member of their professional association.
As a member of nearly twenty years, I still find value in being a member of the Academy. Today the networking and connectedness I feel with peers is the biggest benefit for me. Academy members are engaged and passionate professionals with whom I am happy to work and associate. The Academy Membership year runs from June 1st to May 31st. If you are not already a member, what are you waiting for? You can begin your application for membership by visiting www.eatrightpro.org!
